history

Founded in 1996 by Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering Chris Peltier, NetCarrier was formed with the mission to bring affordable residential Internet access to areas in suburban Philadelphia that were not served by national providers. In 1999, entrepreneur Brook Lenfest recognized that NetCarrier had the right mix of talented personnel and technical expertise to succeed, so he invested in the company and began expanding its service area and offerings. In 2000, he invested $28 million to fund the necessary equipment and human capital required for such an undertaking. By 2001, through the acquisition of Eclipse Internet Access, NetCarrier was offering data and web services in southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York.

The year 2002 brought a new opportunity for NetCarrier - the ability to offer voice services to businesses. NetCarrier became certified as a competitive local exchange carrier in its four operating states, allowing it to compete head-to-head with Verizon, AT&T, WorldCom and others to provide voice services such as local, long distance, toll-free and international.

In early 2003, NetCarrier acquired a switching facility in Newark New Jersey, giving the company immediate access to the Northern New Jersey and Southern New York markets, where it plans to launch its voice services later in the year. With additional products currently in research and development, 2006 is shaping up to be a very promising year.

Over the past ten years, NetCarrier has added new residential services, developed products for the commercial market and expanded into new regions. From its humble beginnings in the founder's basement, NetCarrier has grown to become one of the leading and most respected voice and data providers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
